Meg Ryan's initial foray into show business was via commercials for television, but her ambitions exceeded the realm of commercial. She set out to New York City determined to become an actor. Her first major role came in the year 1981 when she appeared on the soap show As the World Turns. Though her stint on the show was short, it was the beginning of her acting career.
